「ある、なし」「明るい、暗い」などあることの反対、逆のことはほとんどあると言えます。例えば、「平和」について話しているのに平和は「戦争」によってのみ実現出来るといものです。「矛盾」は「AはBと同じある」ということで、「相反」は「A とBは逆である」という意味です。また、増え続ける人類が「生き残る」ためには戦争や疫病で人が「死なねばならない」というものです。「ノンアルコールビールを酒という」「独裁国家が国名に民主主義と謳っている」などは矛盾です。人の意見を聞いているうちに、この人の意見は自分の意見とは反対の考え方だと感じていましたが、続けて聞いているうちにその人の意見に辻褄の合わない矛盾点があることに気が付きました。「相反」は、「相、反する」という意味から反対のことになります。例えば、「北半球は夏なのでなので暑い」に対して「南半球は夏なのに寒い」、「北」の反対は「南」、「上」「下」、「明るい」「暗い」、「面白い」「つまらない」など正反対にある関係を意味します。また、ある意見に反対することや内容が異なる場合にも相反は使われます。相反は逆の関係で、あることについて内容が反対のことを言います。矛盾はあることについて話しているのに、その話の内容に食い違うことが含まれているため、話全体に統一性がなく辻褄が合わないことです。「平和になるためには戦争が必要だ」、「生き残るためには死なねばならない」は辻褄が合わないことです。「相反」は逆のことなので、世の中にはいくらでも存在しています。「矛盾」は「矛」と「盾」の語源話から話が論理的に破綻していることです。例えば「クジラは高等動物なので捕獲して食べてはならない」という意見には反対ですが「牛や豚は高等生物ではないので食べて良い」という理屈は同じ動物なのに「食べてはいけない」「食べても良い」という矛盾点があります。
