Jhui-narulaJuhi Narula, Founder of Cherish Life

Juhi Narula founded Cherish Life with one purpose in mind – to assist visually impaired/blind individuals in increasing their independence and quality of life. At age six, Juhi was diagnosed with cone-rod dystrophy, a progressive disorder of the retina causing impaired color vision, blind spots, and decreased visual acuity. As a junior in high school, Juhi recognized the assistive technology she relied heavily on was very costly and, therefore, inaccessible to most people.

Juhi realized, “The tools I used, such as a CCTV, computer magnification software and bump dots, were my lifeline for academic success and personal growth. Something as simple as a high contrast cutting board could reduce added eye strain and increase my personal safety and confidence when cooking. The fact that children and adults like me might not have access to the tools they need simply because of a lack of resources or exorbitant prices disheartened me.” The urge to remove these barriers for others inspired Juhi to create Cherish Life.

Juhi is currently pursuing an undergraduate dual degree in Business and Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park in order to gain the foundation necessary to run her nonprofit independently in the future. Beyond her scholastic achievements, Juhi has led multiple groups in diversity, inclusivity and leadership conferences throughout her academic career. This, in addition to her long-term commitment to classical dance and piano, brings her immense joy and fulfillment.

She credits her impressive academic and extra-curricular success to the fortunate availability and access to the tools, technology and support that was afforded to her. She believes her personal experiences provide her with a comprehensive view of the obstacles and opportunities which accompany visual impairment/blindness. Juhi believes the blind community can make tremendous improvements in personal growth and quality of life through the support of Cherish Life’s assistive technology and services.
